As Native American Heritage Month begins, we are delighted to share beautiful artwork and important messages about the heritage, past and present, of the American Indian tribes throughout our communities from Maine to Florida. Please check out our mapping story, a video visit with the artist, and the deerskin painting that came together thanks to collaborations with experts at the Smithsonian; Haliwa-Saponi artist Karen Harley of rural North Carolina; and a generous philanthropist.
We hope this initiative inspires you to experience the Greenway with a new perspective and to visit wonderful sites to learn more, from the Wabanaki Culture Center on the border with Canada to the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. and the Tequesta Circle in Miami.
Great Greenway breakthroughs are taking place throughout our corridor these days, from a transportation bond that passed in Maine this week to an $18 million BUILD grant to transform our route experience in Charleston, South Carolina. Together, we can build on this momentum to complete a linear park that connects people with the awe-inspiring cultures and nature throughout our amazing 3,000-mile corridor.
Onward,
Dennis
