During its September 2019 meeting, the East Coast Greenway Alliance’s national Greenway Council unanimously voted to approve close to 16 new miles of East Coast Greenway in 7 states plus Washington, D.C. The segments range from 4.4 miles along the ocean and bay in Miami Beach to rural and urban segments from the Carolinas to Massachusetts.
“These segments close key gaps in the East Coast Greenway network and add to the experience and safety of people biking, walking, running and simply enjoying their community,” says Niles Barnes, deputy director. “A special thanks to our state committees and many partners for getting these trails completed and open to the public. We encourage you to plan a visit and experience them!”
The 11 new segments join 7 segments totaling nearly 5 miles that the Council designated earlier this year, bringing 2019 designations to just over 20 miles of new Greenway.
