From our executive director: Greenway investment, awareness picking up

It's exciting to see the growing popularity of the Greenway in the general public and among decision-makers throughout our corridor. More and more people are walking, running, and biking for their daily commute. The number of end-to-end riders like Stephanie Boewe and her dog, Murf is jumping dramatically.

State and local leaders are allocating resources this year to continue to improve the experience. Connecticut DOT's recently awarded $20+ million to build several key segments connecting smaller towns. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced he's dedicating $100M to close much of a key gap in our complementary route on Manhattan's East Side, north of the United Nations.

One of the architects of the Greenway's recent progress from DC to NYC, our tenacious Mid-Atlantic Coordinator Andy Hamilton, is retiring this June. He has made his mark (read more about Andy here) and, fortunately for all of us, plans to volunteer for the cause in retirement. Thank you for everything, Andy — your service and impact have been an inspiration to all of us!As we move forward, we can all enjoy the remarkable health benefits of active commuting reported in this new study.

Together, let's build a healthy and sustainable future for all!
