DURHAM, N.C. – The nonprofit East Coast Greenway Alliance aims to host hundreds of riders from the East Coast and beyond for the inaugural New York City-to-Philadelphia Greenway Ride, set for May 16-17, 2020. Registration opened this week for 125-mile, 2-day recreational ride at greenway.org/nyctophilly.

After departing Manhattan on Saturday, May 16, cyclists will overnight in Princeton, New Jersey, and head out the next day for an end-of-ride celebration in Philadelphia on Sunday, May 17.

“Since we shared initial plans for the New York City-to-Philadelphia Greenway Ride in August, we’ve been blown away by the level of interest in this event. Ride participants will have the unique opportunity to experience two iconic U.S. cities, as well as some of the most-utilized stretches of the East Coast Greenway in New Jersey’s scenic D&R Canal Towpath and D&L Trail,” says East Coast Greenway Alliance Executive Director Dennis Markatos-Soriano.

“Alongside our event producers at Global Impact Productions, our team is working diligently to build a memorable, first-class event for all participants next spring.”

The registration fee for the New York City-to-Philadelphia Ride is $125 for standard registration and $225 for premium registration. Special early bird rates are available until Nov. 15 with a savings of $25 off the normal registration cost.

Included in the registration fee are an exclusive event T-shirt, all rest stop snacks, lunch on May 16, access to an overnight campsite in Princeton and opening and closing ceremony festivities. Premium event registrants will receive hotel accommodations in Princeton, as well as a spot on a post-ride shuttle from Philadelphia back to New York City.

Following registration, each rider will make a commitment to raise $500 (standard) or $1,000 (premium) in support of the East Coast Greenway Alliance prior to the May 2020 ride. The Alliance staff will offer tools and tips for successful fundraising for each rider following registration. Proceeds from the ride will benefit the nonprofit East Coast Greenway Alliance, which is developing a 3,000-mile multi-use trail from Maine to Florida. In particular, fundraising for this event will help accelerate the development of the route in New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Roughly 1,000 miles of the Maine to Florida route is on protected greenways, and the organization is working daily to move the entire route off-road as close to 2030 as possible.

“We hope to make this ride an annual celebration of the East Coast Greenway, while building awareness of our route, celebrating the progress in the region, highlighting the importance of protected trails, and raising resources needed to complete the Greenway. Events like this help us achieve our vision of a healthy, sustainable, and prosperous future for all,” says Markatos-Soriano.
